Picture of the day!!!!!

Picture(s) of the day!!!

Sorry everyone! I have forgotten to blog so much this week its not even funny... anyways that means I have no idea what exactly I haven't mentioned in this blog so I'm just going to cover what I did today instead. I hope that's okay with everyone :D. Anyways, today we talked about the battle of Gettysburg and Vicksburg. We split the class up into two groups and my group had to look up Vicksburg. We sorta got off topic and started talking about black holes but we still managed to finish the project...I think. We had to make a travel guide type thing once we were done finding all of the information and just as we were working on the last question the bell rang so I don't really know if we finished or not.

Sorry I forgot again to blog last night... So we just worked one the computers and read a document the other day. We had to look up a certain topic on a certain website to find all of our information. Many of the websites were very helpful and they were all mostly maps. With this being said we now have a new writing assignment with respect to the things that we looked up today.

Hello again everyone! Today in class we read this incredibly boring and dull reading. On Monday we talked about what our new section in history was going to be about. We also read a little bit about a speech that he wrote.

For the 30 day challenge thing..

I have been doing one picture every two days but everyone else in class is already done and I only have 11 days done so from here on out I am posting 2 pictures every day so that it will finally be over and done with Thanks! :)

Picture of the Day!!!

Okay so I'm going to admit I did not take this picture today! Its not like I can drive up to Canada every day and take a picture of  La Chute Montmorency. That's french everyone and I have no idea what it means but isn't it pretty?!

Sorry everyone! I completely forgot to blog last night so for those who actually spend their time reading what I write about my history class here ya go! Two days ago we just took notes on a power point and yesterday in class we had an ed cafe that we did. We just talked about some people that were important to the reform movement leading up to the civil war. I think that Lincoln was the most important person not gonna lie and I think you would all agree with me on this one. Tomorrow we have a test which I'm not ready for in any way so wish me luck on that!

Picture of the Day!!

Yesterday I cannot remember what we did in class. Today, for those of you who are actually reading this, we talked about Lincoln and Douglass. We discussed what their views were on certain topics such as slavery and found that in one of the debates that they had Lincoln put Douglass in a bad place. We saw that Douglas wouldn't tell the people exactly what side he was on, weather he was pro slavery or if he didn't want slavery he just went around the question with out really answering what his views were.

Picture of the Day!

Yesterday in class we talked about the unorganized territory and how an man by the name of Brown was important in all of it. I can't really remember the whole thing but that is what I remember. Today we had a half day so there was no class.

Picture of the Day!

Today and Friday of class we have been reading and talking about Uncle Tom's Cabin. On Friday we spent the class period reading this story about the slave named Eliza who escapes from the slave owners. I have to be honest here it was a very dull chapter that we had to read but it was interesting even though it was extremely boring. Today we talked about what happened in the story.

Picture of the day!

The last two days in class we talked about the Mexican war. We learned a lot about the causes of it and what was going on that caused issues between Mexico and America\. Today in class we watched a movie about what happened leading up to the war and other things that were going on around the same time as the dispute between land.

In other news the 30 day trial is going well I take a picture and then I remember what I did that day which is good because normally I'm not good at remembering what I did earlier in the day. So this is the picture I took today..... I will be posting it in a second.

The last two days in class we took a look at 10 different textbook versions of the Underground Railroad. We saw that in many of them they talked about Harriet Tubman and her contribution to the underground railroad. Today we went to the computer lab and looked at a map and saw that in some states in the south during the 1820 s the slaves were the majority of the people.

30 day trial

Today was a by cold day so it was tough to go out and go for a bike ride but I did take some pictures today and I will post them in a second. It's turning out to be a very fun project.

Picture of the day!!!

Today we got the first snow :) I took this photo when I woke up this morning. Also it was taken with my phone so its not the best quality.Today we also took notes on a power point about slavery and the underground railroad. At the beginning of the class we finished answering questions about a reading that we do the day before. And this is a picture of my puppy :D Isn't he just the cutest thing in the world :D

I took these pictures when I got home today. So far with my 30 day trial thing I'm doing good. I have taken two pictures...only 28 more to go :) I think so far this is turning out to be a very interesting assignment and I'm really enjoying it as of right now. That may be subject to change in the near future. And I did take both pictures just so you know.

On Friday before we left class we watched a Ted talks video. This video talked about giving up something for 30 days or doing something for 30 days. We were then told that we are to do something for 30 days. I am planing on eating healthier. I am also going to try and take a picture everyday. I will post the pictures that I take one every day. Also one of the things that I want to do for 30 days is I want to try and go for a bike ride everyday. So each day I am going to blog what I did that day and how everything is going:).

The last two days in class we have been finishing up the revolution unit. Yesterday in class we looked at art from the revolution. It took up the whole class period. I felt that it was very interesting but I didn't think it needed to take a hour long. I realize how much time must have been put into making it but I don't think we really needed to learn about it. Today we took our quiz on the deceleration of independence and then we just wrapped up what happened at the end of the American revolution. Tomorrow we have the history test.

For the life of me right now I cannot remember what we did in class on Friday. Today though we went on a scavenger hunt around the first floor of the school. I really enjoyed this because we got out of the classroom for once. I think it would be really fun if we did the scavenger hunt if we do it again that is around the entire school. On thing that I might change if I could might be to make shorter questions... Just a thought and another thing that I would do is maybe allow people to choose their groups. I understand why that wouldn't work though because there are only so many people in class who have a device... But that's what I think would just make it better. One other thing that make it more fun is if its for more points if you get first place.

In the last voice thread that I did, both moderation and resourcefulness are in the same voice thread. I just put them in the same slide by accident.

Yesterday and today this week were a little crazy. Yesterday in class due to the PSAT testing our class was shortened and we didn't really do much. We just got into very large groups and explained the part of the decleration that we had to summerize and share that with our group. Today I honestly hated. The sub honestly just talked no one knew what were soppose to be really doing and we didn't undersatnd the reading...like at all. The sub said that we couldn't get into groups to figure out what the heak the reading was saying and then on top of that I personally didn't know any of the battles refrence in the reading. I think almost everyone would agree that it was a very confusing class. I only had 15 minutes to write an essay that I really didn't get what I was writing it about. The sub literally talked on and on and on. Altogether it was very difficult to consentrate on the essay and the reading. If I do wicked bad on the essay I wrote the entire thing in a paragraph and I feel like everyone else felt a little rushed into finnishing it before the bell rang.

The last two days in class we presented our presentations and we began to look at the Decleration of Independence. Yesterday we got up in front of the class and spoke about the person that we learned about. I had John Adams who was the vice pisedant to George Washington and he was the second presidant of the US. One fact that I really found intresting about him was that he stood up for British soldiers after the Boston Massacere because he felt that they wouldn't get a fair trial. He didn't like the British but he helped these soldiers. Today we took a part of the decleration and summerized what was being said in it. We then went to the website where we then created a fake twitter account. I don't know if I'm soppose to embed it in my blog or not so I will anyways. My group had the first paragraph or the intruduction and the summery will be on the fake twitter account once I post it.

The last two days in class we began to talk a little bit about the battle of Bunker Hill and the articals Common Sense and The Plain Truth. Yesterday we talked about the battles that the colonists and the British had. The colonists had a hudge advantage against the British. They knew the land and they knew where the roads ended and where the roads went. They used this stratagey to launch suprise attacks at the British. By doing this they were able to get the British into Boston. By doing this they then surrounded Boston with their military groups. Today in class we learned about the people who wrote common sense and plain truth. Common Sense was written by a man who believed that the colonies should in fact break away from England. The Plain Truth was written by a man who felt that they should stay with England. He pointed out in his peice that the British had their back during the French and Indian war and there for they should stay with England.

The last two days in class we talked mostly about Paul Revere's ride. We got into pairs and looked at a sheet with important key things that happened when Paul Revere and the others rode and told everyone that the British were coming. We looked at the poem that was written about  Paul Revere and his ride. We then had to create another poem and use these key points in it. It was a challenge because of the rhyme scheme and you had to try and find the right words to go into it. Over all it was a fun activity though. We also got back our tests that we took and we received the next big project. Today in class we looked at how eye witness accounts may not always be true. We read a persons view on what really happened the night of the Boston massacre and who fired the first shot. We found the majority of them was false if you were British then you blamed it on the Americans and if you we're American then you blamed the British. There was one account written a week after the event written by a British soldier. In his legal paper he wrote that he didn't know who fired the first shot but he knew that the British fired the next one. This man took the blame for something's and for others he said the Americans did it. We found this to be one of the more likely true statements but it was still written a week later so it may have happened differently then the way it was written. We also watched a video on how eye witnesses sometimes get it wrong that they don't always get it right and blame the wrong person or they just don't remember the real events that well expecially if it was a week or more after the actual event occurred. I found this Ted talks video very interesting and hope that we watch so more in the future they really help to put things into the right light. And they get you. Thinking about everything that is happening.

The last two days of class this is what we did... We got into groups yesterday and made a power point on our topic. Then we prepared for the Ed cafe that we had today. The Ed cafe today that we had was all about the stamp act and the Boston massacre and the Intolerable acts. My topic was the Intolerable acts. It didn't go that well for me because I was sick and no one could really understand me but basically the Intolerable acts were put in place because Parliament wanted to punish the colonies, especially Massachusetts, for their behavior. In this act it was said that the people now had to get the governor's approval before you were allowed to hold a meeting. Also if you were an official and committed a crime with the penalty of death now had to go to England for trial. Parliament wanted Massachusetts to pay for the tea that they dumped in the harbor during the Boston Tea Party. Many people felt that this however would be a step backwards. Massachusetts knew that they couldn't stand against Britain by themselves so they sent Paul Revere to go and gather people from other colonies. The colonies all felt that Boston's punishment would affect all of America's ports. Instead of dividing the colonies the Intolerable acts instead brought the colonies closer together. In June 1774 Parliament went even further and got the colonies even more angry. They created a royal government in Canada and extended the Quebec province even farther down to the Ohio Valley. Colonists felt that London was giving Canada better treatment when the Americans were being punished. This just made colonists very upset.

Comic Strips!

Comic strip!

The last two days of class we read a passage and took notes on the reading. I wasn't in school on Friday so I don't really know what we did in class. All I know is that the class disscussed the packet that i recived on Thursday. Today in class we read about Washington. We talked about how he went to fort DeQuesve that was in New France, a place that England did't own, and captured it. But soon afterwards it was retaken by the French. The reason why the British wanted the land so much was because they wanted farmland to grow tobacco. This then became the French and Indian war. It  then ended in 1763 with the British winning. There was a slight problem though, the Indians who lived there were angry. To protect the colonies there was a line put between the two places. The people were very angry and it was known as "Salutory Neglect".

the last two day in class we took a test and we took part in a discussion called ed cafe.
i really enjoyed the ed cafe because we were able to talk to the members of our group and each one of us was able to have an imput. i really liked how we had small groups for the disscussion because so many people had a different imput and if they were in large groups i feel there would be too many people saying differentt things. another thing that i liked about the ed cafe was that even as you were talking about the freedom you were assigned people in the group were able to start making connections to ypur topic. today in class we took the test which i would say was fair. there are so many spelling errors in here and i realize that but im writing this on a phone so its quite difficult. there is almost no free wifi where im at right now.

The last two days in class we have learned about the Bill of rights and we have also learned about the federlists and the Democratic-Republican parties. Yesterday we read  a story and than we read it as a class and in groups we determined what amendment would protect their right to do what they did. Today in class we talked about the federlists and the Democratic-Republican party. We learned that the federlist party wanted a strong centrol government and they were rule for elite people, Weathly people, merchants and others with jobs like that. The Democratic-Republican party also felt that there should be a strong national government but they favored the states' right because they were the government closest to the people. They also felt that if its not in the constitution than congress may not do it. Most of the people they were for were farmers and such.

TIMELINE!!!!

Thursday, September 20, 2012

The last two days in class we began to learn about the federalists and the anti-federalists. We learned about why the anti-federalists were against the constitution. One of the main reasons they were against it was that it was drafted in secrecy and that they felt the constitution took away important power from the states. They also felt that the constitution lacked a bill of rights. The federalist’s felt that with a constitution they would have a strong national government and also felt that without a strong national government that there would be political disorder. Then we drew a magazine cover for a certain group, either the anti-federalists or the Federalist Party. Today we went to the computer lab and learned what we would be doing on Tuesday and we started play the icivic games.

The last two days in class we learned a lot of different things about the government. On Monday we learned about a few plans (Virginia Plan, New Jersey Plan, and the Hamilton Plan). From these different plans we learned that in all of them you needed at least one person. In each one you had to have more than a year in office and also you weren’t allowed to run for re-election, this rings true for all the plans except in the Hamilton Plan, in which case you basically were in office until you died or something else happened to you. In the Virginia Plan the person with the power was able to execute national laws. In the New Jersey Plan one of the jobs that the person had was to direct all military operations. In the Hamilton Plan they could also execute national laws and they could make treaties and direct war and foreign affairs.
Today in class we got into groups and made a drawing that showed the different branches of government. Our drawing was a picture of a tree and had the three different branches (executive, legislative, and judicial branches). On each branch we had a fact or two about what that branch does, how many people are in that branch etc. I'm going to post a picture with it but as I'm writing it I'm still waiting for the person in my group to send me the picture...so I'm posting this and then the picture will go up when I get it.

The last two days in class we did a lot of different activities. One activity that we did was we got into groups and took notes on different topics and people. From this activity I learned many different things. We learned that not everyone who signed the constitution agreed on how they thought the government should be. For example there were some people who wanted the people to vote and have a say in who represents the government like, George Mason and James Wilson. Other people like Roger Sherman and Charles Pinckney believed that the people should not have a say in the government. Charles Pinckney felt that the people didn’t know anything about government and they should not even be allowed to make any decision about the government. Other people like Elbridge Gerry thought that the people didn’t want it for the reasons they said they did so instead he suggested that the people can appoint representatives but the state makes the final decision. In the end they gave everyone a little bit of what they wanted. Most points in the government today have the people voting for who they want to represent them. All the states have equal votes no matter what the size of the state. Many people couldn’t agree on anything so they ended up compromising on many topics, all these compromises formed the legislative branch.

3 objects that discribe me

If I had to describe myself by choosing 3 objects most like me I would probably say that on the top of the list would be my iPod. I love music and I love to sing and in the past I played the saxophone. My iPod has many different types of music each one very different from the last. It describes me because I like many different things. Just looking through the different genres of music you can see that I have a huge range of what I listen to. I have country music and then I have pop music like Katey Perry, Taylor Swift, and The Band Perry. Then there’s really weird music that I don't know anything about.

Another object that I would compare myself to would be a book. I almost always am reading a book. Like me it’s a quiet activity and I'm really quiet...sometimes. A book tells a story I tend to tell some pretty weird stories a lot. It seems like something crazy always happens when my family gets together or goes on a vacation. I just tell my life story like a character in a book.

The last object I would use to describe myself would be a pair of shoes or sneakers. I've traveled to many places like Ireland and I've camped all over the place. A pair of shoes does the same thing. Where ever you go your shoes go. They travel all over the place, to school, to work, to a business meeting in Iceland where ever. You wear them to go hiking and to go bike riding and I love to do those things too.
