The last two days of class this is what we did... We got into groups yesterday and made a power point on our topic. Then we prepared for the Ed cafe that we had today. The Ed cafe today that we had was all about the stamp act and the Boston massacre and the Intolerable acts. My topic was the Intolerable acts. It didn't go that well for me because I was sick and no one could really understand me but basically the Intolerable acts were put in place because Parliament wanted to punish the colonies, especially Massachusetts, for their behavior. In this act it was said that the people now had to get the governor's approval before you were allowed to hold a meeting. Also if you were an official and committed a crime with the penalty of death now had to go to England for trial. Parliament wanted Massachusetts to pay for the tea that they dumped in the harbor during the Boston Tea Party. Many people felt that this however would be a step backwards. Massachusetts knew that they couldn't stand against Britain by themselves so they sent Paul Revere to go and gather people from other colonies. The colonies all felt that Boston's punishment would affect all of America's ports. Instead of dividing the colonies the Intolerable acts instead brought the colonies closer together. In June 1774 Parliament went even further and got the colonies even more angry. They created a royal government in Canada and extended the Quebec province even farther down to the Ohio Valley. Colonists felt that London was giving Canada better treatment when the Americans were being punished. This just made colonists very upset.
